When I created “Surely,” I wanted to make something different.

I began by producing the beat with the intention of creating an Afrobeats instrumental. However, one thing I have always done is follow the direction of the sound rather than force it into a particular style. I allowed the rhythm, melodies and overall energy to guide me, and that process eventually created the sound you now hear on “Surely.”

Once the instrumental was complete, I knew that a strong rap verse would be the most impactful way for me to approach it.

The bass placed me in a completely different frame of mind. It gave the record a sense of confidence and grit, allowing me to express my story with honesty and clarity.

In my verse, I rap about staying focused, continuing to work and refusing to copy or conform to what everyone else is doing. The song reflects my determination to remain committed to my craft and trust my own path, even when the journey becomes difficult.

The opening lines capture that mindset:

“Mama born me, tell me make I go far.

I no fit sit wasting time on the sofa.”

Those words represent the encouragement I received from my mother to aim high and make something meaningful of my life. I cannot afford to sit back and allow time to pass while waiting for success to find me. I have to remain active, disciplined and committed to the work.

After recording my verse, I felt the song needed a vocalist who could complement my rap delivery while bringing warmth and melody to the record.

I remembered a conversation I had with Ayo of London, who had previously played me one of his projects featuring a singer called Eazikial. The moment I heard Eazikial’s voice, I knew he was someone I wanted to work with.

When I completed “Surely,” I could not imagine anyone else on the song. His tone and melodic approach perfectly complemented the sound and feeling I was trying to create.

I sent the beat to Eazikial, and he returned with a chorus that captured the entire message of the record:

“Surely, surely, surely, we go follow them chop life, my brother.”

That chorus became the heart of the song.

“Surely” is about believing that our time will come. No matter how difficult the struggle becomes, we remain grounded, focused and true to ourselves because we believe the win is possible.

It is not about sitting back and assuming success is guaranteed without effort. It is about having faith in the journey while continuing to put in the work.

The contrast between my direct rap verses and Eazikial’s uplifting vocals gives the song its identity. Together, we created a record about perseverance, brotherhood, self-belief and the determination to keep moving forward.

“Surely” is more than a song about success.

It is a reminder to stay focused, trust your craft and never lose yourself while pursuing the life you believe is waiting for you.
