The 705 story
705 is the stage name of Oluwatosin Alabi, a Nigerian-born Afrobeats artist and producer based in London, UK.
He derived his artist name “705” from creatively reversing and numericizing letters from his nickname “Tos” (short for Tosin): then stylized as 705 (replacing letters with similar-looking numbers).
Born in Lagos, Nigeria (specifically Surulere), he moved to London in 2001 and began making music in his teens through freestyle rap battles in school. He self-taught production using software like Reason and Cubase, later studying music technology formally.
His sound fuses Afrobeats with hip-hop, R&B, pop, and influences from legends like Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, Michael Jackson, Tupac, Wizkid, and Naira Marley (with whom he lived and collaborated early on around 2010–2012).
Notable releases include:
Albums like The 5th Element (2020)
Singles such as “FilmTrick” (feat. C Blvck, 2024), “Too Bad,” “Tik Tok” (charted on iTunes World Charts), “Good Feeling,” and covers of popular Afrobeats tracks
705 has performed at events like Notting Hill Carnival, supported acts at the O2 Apollo Manchester, and gained radio play on BBC 1Xtra/BBC Introducing. His music is available on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and Audiomack, with growing streams.
He’s an emerging independent artist in the UK Afrobeats scene, distinct from the ’90s American R&B girl group 702.
